Police Reform is a set of well-defined activities implemented with the aim of establishing a professional, accessible, transparent, efficient, and equally performing police service throughout the entire country, in order to meet the needs of society.

A reformed police means direct and tangible benefits for the public as well as for police officers — greater safety for every citizen and community, and a strong fight against crime.

Police Reform is carried out with the financial support of the European Union, amounting to 57 million Euros — the most substantial sum ever granted to the Police within a development program, in the form of Budget Support provided under the Financing Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Commission in December 2016. This document clearly defines the police development objectives for the period 2017–2020, as well as the expected outcomes.

Another strategic document that complements the Financing Agreement on Budget Support is the Police Development Strategy for the years 2016–2020, approved by the Government in May 2016.

The substantial support from the European Union will allow the Police to benefit from valuable knowledge, experience, and modern equipment, thus radically improving the quality of public services delivered to communities, as well as the working conditions of police officers.

The current leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the General Police Inspectorate, along with police officers, have taken on the challenging responsibility of implementing the Police Reform, in the current complex national and regional context, being determined to achieve institutional development and to provide citizens with a modern, efficient, and responsive Police.
